KIM SHOWS YOU HOW TO SET UP A WATER RESERVOIR!
Setting Up a Water Reservoir
  • One of the chief causes of plant death is over watering. While we engineered the Upotic Planter to access soil nutrients directly when outdoors, we also wanted to figure out a way to limit overwatering when the plant was moved indoors.
  • The first approach was to slope the sides of the planter into an almost cupped bottom. This was to keep the root ball in place while transitioning. We found that if we filled the bottom portion (the cutting edge) with recycled material it created a water reservoir. Most of the soil stays in place up top, and roots stayed out of the water.
  • The easiest way to do this is to place a 4″ nursery planter pot upside down in the bottom portion. Threading a nylon cord through the bottom of this nursery pot allows collected water to wick into the soil. Voila! Your plant can drink when it is thirsty but not drown!
Setting Up Your Upotic Planter for Outdoor Use
  • Choose the location in your garden where you would like your Upotic to be placed.
  • Holding the top of the planter, simply twist it into the soil until the 4” lower portion is completely turned into the ground.
  • Knot the wicking cord around the dowel and set it into the grooved space in the sides of planter.
  • Add soil to about 2/3 height of the planter and place your plant’s root ball inside planter.
  • Add more soil as needed and press each step so plant is steady inside planter and at the desired height.
  • Soak your soil thoroughly.
  • Enjoy!
Setting Up Your Upotic Planter for Indoor Use
  • We recommend placing a 4” nursery pot upside down into planter’s digging core space, so that the bottom of the nursery pot is facing the top of the Upotic planter. This way soil will remain out of this space creating a water reservoir away from your plant’s roots.
  • Knot the wicking cord around the dowel and set dowel into the grooved spaces in the sides of planter.
  • Place the Upotic planter into its bottom cup.
  • Add soil to about 2/3 height of the planter and place your plant’s root ball inside planter.
  • Add more soil as needed and press each step so plant is steady inside planter and at the desired height.
  • Soak your soil thoroughly. Thereafter, water from the bottom by adding water to the bottom cup.

Enjoy!

Taking Your Indoor Plant Outside
  • Choose the location in your garden where you would like your Upotic to be placed.
  • Take off the bottom cup and remove the 4″ nursery pot or other placeholder.
  • We recommend wearing a pair of gardening gloves for the next step.
  • Holding the top of the planter, simply twist it into the soil until the 4” digging core is completely turned into the ground.
  • Enjoy!
Taking Your Outdoor Plant Inside
  • Wear your garden gloves and untwist your Upotic from the ground.
  • You may need a trowel or knife to free inside of digging core of soil and roots.
  • Use a 4” nursery pot placed upside down inside digging core to hold space.
  • Place planter inside bottom cup and bring inside.
  • Water & enjoy!
