Peppers
Add a little spice to your indoor-outdoor garden! Peppers are a good choice for the Upotic Planter as they are perennial if brought inside. With the proper care you can eat home grown peppers year round! The Upotic Planter is almost 2 gallons and 14″ in overall height. A few pepper varieties that would do best are Banana, Jalapeño, Shishito, Serrano, and Scotch Bonnet. It’s possible to grow and/or overwinter Bell Peppers but they can get quite large. We learned oodles about planting peppers from The Pepper Geek. Definitely watch his videos on YouTube as well.
Peppers are a great indoor plant but they prefer warm air and warm soil. Light, soil, and water are also the usual essentials when starting seeds. We used the Jiffy cell starter pack and it worked well. They grew a little slower, but we also had a heater for a few hours during the day, an oscillating fan, and of course, grow lights. We rotated the plants often and kept to a watering schedule, letting the plants dry out a little in between waterings.
We repotted successfully into 4″ pots after 4 weeks, and then at 8 weeks noticed little buds forming. Wow, so exciting, but going back to The Pepper Geek, we learned we better pinch those little guys so that we could grow a bigger, healthier plants and more peppers. We pinched and repotted again into 6″ pots. Visit this page to learn more.
