The Prayer Plant (Maranta leuconeura)
The Prayer Plant gets it’s common name because it’s leaves tend to fold at night! Most varieties have a lovely rosemary scent. They are low growing but do like to spread. The bold foliage makes Prayer Plants perfect for window sills, mantles, or shelves that need a splash of color.
Here are a few tips to keep in mind when caring for your Prayer Plant:
- They like a warm, moist environment. Mist their leaves!
- They thrive in bright, indirect light. Do not place them in direct sunlight, however, as leaves will scorch.
- Water from the bottom, placing room temperature in the bottom cup of the Upotic Planter as often as necessary. Do not let soil dry out.
- Marantas can be sensitive to hard tap water. Try using filtered water or leaving water out overnight before using.
- Prayer Plants like to be fed. Fertilize your prayer plant every two weeks with a water-soluble houseplant fertilizer diluted to half-strength.
- These plants are pet friendly!
