Easy Care Houseplants

The Peace Lily (Spathiphyllum)

The Peace Lily is a common, easy to care for houseplant that does very well outdoors. They are tropical evergreens, that with proper care can bloom throughout the year, but are not cold hardy plants. For these reasons, we think the Upotic Planter is a great home for the Peace Lily. Twist it into your garden when temperatures are above 60° so that the plant can soak up the sun and soil nutrients and then move it back inside when temperatures drop.

Here are a few tips to keep in mind when caring for your Peace Lily:

  • Be consistent in watering your Peace Lily. Soil should be moist. If it dries out for more than a few days the leaves will brown. Do not over water! Water from the bottom cup of your Upotic Planter; that way the plant can drink when it needs to without drowning. Add water to the bottom cup as needed.
  • Try not to use tap water as leaves will brown because of added fluoride.
  • They love humidity! Mist their leaves!
  • Fertilize occasionally, every 6-8 weeks, with a balanced houseplant fertilizer.
  • Peace Lilies like bright but indirect light and warm environments.
  • These plants are fabulous oxygenators! They also are one of the best air purifying plants on the market!
  • Keep the Peace Lily away from small children and pets. They are mildly poisonous.
  • When your Peace Lily outgrows it’s container, simply split and repot!
