Begonias
Begonias are popular houseplants not only because of their beautiful flowers but because of their striking foliage. Their adaptability make them a great plant for your Upotic Planter, but you should try to stick with either fibrous or rhizomatous begonias as they do better indoors. Tuberous begonias need more humidity to thrive indoors. Rhizomatous begonias have really interesting foliage variations, mostly evergreen, with some blooms in the summer. Although there are a few varieties of fibrous begonias, the wax begonia is the most common and comes in a variety of colors and is ever blooming.

Humidity is still a key factor for begonias, so be sure to create reservoir in the bottom of your planter and keep water in the bottom cup. Begonias need a consistent, well drained watering schedule. It’s okay to let the soil dry out a little and water when you see the plant droop. Do not get begonia leaves wet during watering; water from the bottom cup!
Be sure to give them plenty of bright indirect sunlight. For more information and tips on caring for your begonias indoors, go to Toronto Master Gardeners.
