Back in October I posted about how I was moving a few plants from my garden into the house and I wanted to follow up with you on how they are doing. Look at the growth in the canna lily!
Wowza, am I right? It didn’t grow that much outside! It’s in an east window and all I have done is kept it watered. This is important because cannas have the option to become dormant if the soil is left to dry out, but will thrive and even bloom indoors in the winter if they have proper care. Meanwhile, my Firecracker Lantana is green and healthy. I’m sharing a photo of only one of the plants, but honestly they are both sturdy little guys!
I don’t expect that they will bloom for me but they are an evergreen if treated properly. A north or east window, prudent watering, and keep a lookout for bugs! I learned some good tips from Guide to Houseplants: https://www.guide-to-houseplants.com/lantana-plants.html
Surprise! Maybe you watched the video in October, where I trimmed the vinca vine when I brought my Upotic planters inside. Well, they are just sprouting up all over! I’m going to have to be careful they don’t take over the lantana … or the house!
Also known as periwinkle because of it’s little lavender flowers that bloom in the spring, vinca is actually a very easy house guest and virtually indestructible. Where the canna is giving me height, the vinca gives depth. A nice combo in the window.
I’m waiting for the new colors of Upotic planters to arrive. I’m thinking of getting the White Linen and the Wild Ginger because the vinca will look lovely in either. The other can go to a sweet little coffee plant a friend gave to me. It will be ready for a new home soon!
