October in Chicagoland

The leaves are starting to change and soon they will be piling up on the lawn. It’s not freezing overnight yet but it will be soon so it’s time to winterize our lawns and gardens.

I had a Gerber Daisy in one of my Upotics that didn’t do well. Not the planters fault, I think there wasn’t enough sun where it was planted, so I am going to use the planter for this Canna to keep over winter in the house. Between my poor house plant skills and my daughter’s cat, this little guy will be challenged, but I have hopes to replant in the spring.

I had some Firecracker Lantana in my front garden that have been big, gorgeous bloomers and I’d like to try keeping them over winter to put back out in the spring. I was able to simply turn them out of the garden and put the bottom cups under them and bring them inside. I did choose to put a disposable nursery pot in the bottom of the planter so that I have a water reservoir under the roots. I would love to hear from other Upotic users! How did your summer go and have you moved or removed your planters from the garden?
